Counter-UAV Protection in Maritime Environments
The increasing proliferation of affordable and capable unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is fundamentally changing maritime warfare. While conventional air defence systems remain essential, they alone cannot address the full spectrum of emerging aerial threats.
Particularly in ports, during transit through confined waterways and in amphibious operations, an operational capability gap arises between strategic air defence and passive platform protection. Future naval protection concepts therefore require additional Counter-UAV systems specifically designed to counter threats at close range.
SCILT Naval addresses this critical layer by providing dedicated active protection for individual naval platforms.
Scalable Close-Range Protection
SCILT has been specifically developed for the immediate threat zone, where large-scale air defence systems and formation-level C-UAV solutions may no longer be able to engage effectively.
SCILT Naval serves as a final active layer of defence for individual vessels, bridging the gap between passive protection measures and large-scale air defence systems. It is designed to counter small UAV threats, including FPV drones and loitering munitions, and can engage both individual threats and multiple simultaneous attacks within the close-range protection zone.
This makes SCILT Naval suitable for a wide range of maritime operational scenarios, from harbour protection and confined waterways to amphibious operations and missions at sea.
System Integration and Operation
SCILT Naval uses three alert stages — detection, approach and engagement — and employs commercially available shotgun calibres as effectors. Compared with the land-based variant, SCILT Naval provides an extended effective range and an automatic reloading capability. The available effector spectrum ranges from fragmentation to armour-piercing variants.
Its open system architecture enables SCILT Naval to be integrated into existing command-and-control (C2) and sensor systems. Alternatively, it can be deployed as a complete standalone solution with its own detection and reconnaissance capabilities.
SCILT Naval provides naval forces with a scalable and cost-effective Counter-UAV solution for close-range protection against evolving drone threats in complex maritime environments.
